The comparative antiarrhythmic effects of mepivacaine and lignocaine.

چکیده
A comparison of the antiarrhythmic effects of 2 mg/kg of mepivacaine and lignocaine, as measured by elevations in the end-diastolic ventricular stimulation threshold (EDVST), was made in open-chest dogs. Both mepivacaine and lignocaine increased the EDVST significantly. The peak elevation of EDVST occurred within 2 minutes after injection and averaged 0.013 mA (13 ,uA) with mepivacaine and 0.022 mA (22 fjA) with lignocaine. The greater early response to lignocaine as compared with mepivacaine was significant. After 4 minutes the rate of decreasing effect was approximately 0.001 mA/ min for both mepivacaine and lignocaine. The studies provide new evidence demonstrating the antiarrhythmic properties of mepivacaine and support the continued evaluation of related compounds in the search for better antiarrhythmic agents.

متن کاملComparison of the vasoactivity of amide and ester local anaesthetics. An intradermal study.
The vascular effects and duration of action of two ester-linked local anaesthetics, procaine and amethocaine, and four amide-linked local anaesthetics, cinchocaine, lignocaine, mepivacaine and prilocaine, were investigated in 10 volunteers by intradermal injection using a double-blind technique. Procaine and amethocaine produced marked vasodilatation; weal formation was observed at 80% of the a...

Rat and mouse were utilized as models to study the spinal (subarachnoid) anesthetic effects of five commonly used local anaesthetic agents. Duration and frequency of motor and sensory blockade, and onset time were determined after injection of 5.0% lignocaine, 0.75% bupivacaine and 1.0% amethocaine to the same groups of rats with chronically implanted catheters in the lumbar subarachnoid space....

Several studies have reported transient neurological symptoms after spinal anaesthesia with 5% lignocaine. In order to evaluate the role of concentrated solutions of local anaesthetic in the development of transient neurological symptoms, 200 ASA I or II patients undergoing minor orthopaedic or rectal surgery under spinal anaesthesia were allocated randomly to receive 4% mepivacaine 80 mg or hy...
